Will birds eat more bird seed or suet?

I thought of this question when I was looking for birdseed to buy. I was wondering if I should buy bird seed or suet, and then I began to wonder which one the birds would eat more of.
Will birds eat more bird seed or suet?
My research is showing that most birds enjoy fattier or rich foods, like seed or suet. I can't find much on which they prefer. It is important to have grit, in the form of ground shells, sand, or ground eggshells. Most birds prefer homemade, however I am using store bought. Birds can enjoy pancakes, donuts and other baked goods. Chickadees enjoy suet as well, and they are around the whole year.

Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that the birds will eat more seed, seeing as though it's probably easier for them to eat. Birdseed is easier for them to eat and then fly away, while suet will take a bit longer.

Variables:
Since I’m doing this over a few weeks, weather could affect things. Squirrels around the area could also make things harder, seeing as there is no way to control them.

Materials:

12 oz bird seed.
12 oz suet.
Bird feeder.
Suet feeder.

Setup:

The first thing I did (aside from buying materials) was weighing the suet. It was 12 ounces. From there I figured out how much birdseed to use. I hung the two feeders in similar spaces, right across from each other. After three weeks I took it down and weighed both.

Notes:
It was raining very hard the first week, so I added an extra two.

Results:

After three weeks I took them both down and weighed each. The birdseed had gone from 12 oz. to 7. oz. The suet had only gone from 12 to 11, supporting my hypothesis. Another interesting thing that happened was that after so much rain, both the birdseed and the suet had gotten a bit waterlogged. This only happened near the end, so I didn't have any time to change anything. I am wondering if this affected anything.
